I Want My Pocket T.V.

My boyfriend is full of surprises.  The most recent (and one I find pretty hilarious) is this 90’s relic, found in a box as we were going through some stuff around the house today. Maybe I am just really behind the times, but I never knew anyone who had one of these top-of-the-line LCD Pocket Color TVs by Casio…until now.

And you thought your iPad was cool.

The “C” Word

My discussion with a gay man last night went like this:

Him: Blah blah blah…she’s such a “see you next tuesday”.

Me: What!? Did you just use that word!

Him: Yes.  I love that word.

Me:  That’s like me calling gay people the “F” word (rhymes with bag).

Him: No, that’s totally different.

Me: No, it’s not.

Him: Yes it is, and it’s not as bad as the “F” word (rhymes with bag) or the “N” word (rhymes with bigger).

Me:  It’s pretty much exactly the same.

Him: No, its not.

We went back and forth on this for about 10 minutes. Who agrees with me?

It’s Official

I was sitting at my desk this morning at work, and my boss came in and said, “You ready?” I looked at him, puzzled.  Did I forget about a meeting?  “For what?” I asked.  He answered, “To go to HR.”

Now this is not as scary as it sounds.  Actually, I have been waiting for this moment for a few months now.  The moment when I officially give notice at my job. That kind of sounds bad too. Really, I love my job.  It has been great for me in so many ways, but I am ready to move on. Call me crazy but I am looking forward to just focusing on one thing (law school), instead of the million things I seem to be doing all at once.  Anyway, we headed up to HR and my notice became official.  There’s no turning back now.

Before law school, however, is my backpacking trip around Europe! I leave April 20th and return June 29th.  And I’m pretty much going it alone. I plan to meet up with my mom in either Holland or Italy (maybe both), and then my boyfriend, Brian, will likely meet me in Germany sometime in June.  But so far when someone asks me my plan, I just shrug my shoulders and mumble something to the effect of, I’m not really sure yet.

So, my plan this President’s Day weekend is to work on the planning for my trip.  I bought my ticket a few weeks ago when I saw a good deal on Virgin Atlantic and that’s been pretty much the extent of it. Since I am flying in and out of London, I plan to spend my first days there and also visit some realitives that live in other parts of England. Then, on April 27th I’ll head over to Holland where I also have some family.  I adore Holland and they are celebrating Queen’s Day on the 29th.  As my cousin told me, they turn Amsterdam orange and it’s one big party!  The timing also works as I will be out of London just in time to miss the Royal Wedding (I just don’t want to be in that mess).

Now for your help! Below, is my initial list of countries to visit.  This list is fluid. I don’t want a set itinerary but do want to have an outline.  I welcome any input, and suggestions about things to see, do, places to stay (preferably cheap, but clean), etc.  Thank you!

The Dream of the 90’s

I love living in San Francisco and hope to get into a law school here, but I did apply to one out-of-state school: Lewis & Clark, in Portland, Oregon. Now it seems that everything Portland catches my attention.  There’s the song Portland, Oregon by Jack White and Loretta Lynn, and now PORTLANDIA!…the new show on IFC that’s written and starred by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. It pokes fun at Portland in the 90’s. There are so many things about this show that I love, I don’t even know where to start; the clothes, the music, the attitude, and hello, the guest stars!  Basically, although I was born in and love many things 80’s, I spent the bulk of my youth and all four years of high school in the 90’s, so needless to say, I’m hooked.

If you don’t get the IFC channel you can watch clips from the show for free on Hulu.com, which is what I did until I finally broke down and just bought the episodes from Amazon.com for $1.99.  I also always check CastTV to see if new episodes have been posted (with the hope that I won’t have to pay for them). To get you started I’ve posted my top three clips below! Enjoy!

Let The Good Times Roll

Welcome to Depth in a Shot Glass! My new blog where I will share what’s on my mind and the things I enjoy in life, from the mundane to the big time and anywhere in between.

Let’s get right to it! I’m currently embarking on lots of new, good, and exciting changes in my life. With that comes facing a lot of my fears; first up, putting myself out there. Five years ago, when my dad suddenly passed away, I closed up in a lot of ways. I have decided five years is enough, damn it! Time to push my boundaries again and open up a little.

So here I am! I never thought I would ever have the desire to write a blog, but it turns out… I do! I love to write and I’ve got a lot planned in the upcoming months so it’s time to let the good times roll!

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you here again, finding Depth in a Shot Glass.

(I know this video doesn’t work in my blog, and I can’t find it from a different source that will.  Still, it’s amazing, so please click to watch!)
